The Department of Management and Organizational Studies in Western University’s Faculty of Social Science is now officially known as the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies. The university’s Board of Governors made the name change official at their most recent meeting on June 22.
The change reflects the remarkable success of the department, helped in large part by the generous and ongoing support of alumnus Aubrey Dan and his wife Marla. The Dans have not only contributed to the success of the department, but to that of its faculty members and students through the establishment of endowments, faculty fellowships and student awards.
The Faculty of Social Science is incredibly fortunate to have Aubrey Dan as an engaged and proud supporter, said Dean Bob Andersen.
“Mr. Dan is always willing to give of his time; and he cares deeply about our success. His generous contributions have helped our students move forward in their studies and careers. We are grateful to have Mr. Dan looking out for the faculty and the university,” he said.
The partnership with the Dan family is a great example of the success that can be achieved through philanthropy when donor and organization values align, said Kelly Cole, Vice President (External).
“We are so pleased to have a person who fits with our organization and our culture. Aubrey Dan is exactly the kind of individual anyone would want to have associated with their particular area,” she said. “He is so engaged, so passionate about what is going on inside the faculty, the department and Western. We have a great match here.”
Home to more than half of Social Science students, the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies offers a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) degree in six areas of study: Accounting, Commercial Aviation Management, Consumer Behaviour, Finance, Human Resource Management and Public Administration.
