Thomas C.R. Lawson Award in Commercial Aviation Management

Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in Year 3 or 4 of the Commercial Aviation Management (CAM) Flight Training module in DAN Management, with a minimum 70% average and a demonstrated aptitude for aviation. The scholarship and awards committee in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies program will select the recipient, in consultation with the Executive Director of the CAM program and the flight school. The recipient will be presented with the award at the CAM banquet, held each April. This award was established by a generous donation from The Lawson Foundation in honour of Thomas C.R. Lawson. Tom Lawson was born in London, Ontario and attended both the University of New Brunswick and Western University. He obtained his pilot license while at UNB and spent a summer surveying power lines from the air. After finishing university he launched a lifelong career in business, and over the years volunteered his financial expertise to dozens of organizations. Tom's passion for flying led him to get involved in organizing airshows and starting a flight training school. It was at this point that he helped to develop the CAM program at Western, confident that it would give future pilots the background they need to have lifelong success in aviation. Tom died in 2014 from prostate cancer at age 71.
